there comes a point when your child is all grown up and it’s time to stop treating them like a kid and more of a peer/adult. i think when your kid has graduated from college, gotten married, and even owns her own home, the whole parenting role is kind of over. your kid is who they are going to be. there’s no point in continually correcting them/criticizing them on how they should behave.

seriously! i can’t even have a conversation with my mom without her correcting my vietnamese. ARGH.

a few days ago, my mom flew over to visit me at the last minute because she was able to find cheap tickets. unfortunately, the departure time for that flight was at 6 AM. since my dad was already here, she was left with asking a family friend to drive her to the airport at 4 AM. she felt very bad and profusely thanked the friend. the friend told her that they were good friends and that she should not feel bad for asking a friend to do a favor. he was happy to help her out and that that was what friends do for each other.

one of my favorite bands came together for a reunion show tonight at the bamboozle festival

something corporate:

i forgot how much i love this band. listening to soco always brings back memories for me. konstantine is one of the songs i put on boyrobot’s first mix cd when we started dating. he loves that song. he also had a quote from it engraved on an ipod he gave me (“this is to a girl who got into my head“). sometimes i forget how much music is/was a part of my life but a good concert always reminds me.

irresistable irish soda bread (from allrecipes)

Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/3 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 cups buttermilk
1/4 cup butter, melted

Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and baking soda. Blend egg and buttermilk together, and add all at once to the flour mixture. Mix just until moistened. Stir in butter. Pour into prepared pan.
Bake for 65 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the bread comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Wrap in foil for several hours, or overnight, for best flavor.

neat trick: you can substitute 1 tbsp white vinegar + enough milk to make 1 cup = buttermilk.

i also forgot the baking POWDER. yes, recipe calls for soda and powder. i’m getting old.

but it still turned out great! my coworkers loved it. i loved it. the loaf pan is empty. success!!!!!!!!!

ps. the reviewers keep harping about adding raisins to it but nosiree. no raisins in mine. i am anti-raisins. but pro-blackberry jam. delish.

happy st. patrick’s day.

about

09 Mar 2010

every year on may 5, my husband and i jump in the ocean with our clothes on. we started this when we began dating many years ago and it’s a constant reminder of our fun-loving, free-spirited, and completely random relationship. this past year, we got married and bought a house. we’re finally starting a life and home together and it got me so excited that i had to start a blog to document it all. this blog is going to be about my new life and my loves. whether it be the food i cook, the crafts i make, the things and people that inspire me, or the adventures I will embark on….it will all be here for me to remember to enjoy life and to not take anyone or any minute for granted.

my name is kim but you can call me girlrobot. my partner in crime will be known as boyrobot. (I like robots, ok? :) )

you can also read more of my writing here.
